“Movement-as-life-practice."
Alanna Morris (she/they)
Embodied Practice Facilitator, Black Light Research Steward, Award-Winning Dancer & Choreographer
Family & Culture
A daughter of a Tobagonian Mom and a Grenadian Dad, her early life was shaped by the Afro Caribbean culture of East Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY. From her parents she inherited a love of the natural world, spiritual strength, artistic flair, leadership, charisma and fine attention to detail. In the metaphysical system of cardology, Alanna’s birth card is the 6 of clubs - the Messenger and Card of Higher Purpose - with a Queen of Hearts Planetary Ruling Card (archetypal mother & wife). In Human Design, she is a ¼ Pure Generator with a defined Sacral Authority. As a result of these placements Alanna is wired as a researcher and teacher. Entrusted with a high degree of intuition, she curiously creates spaces and opportunities to connect with others by sharing her wisdom and knowledge.
Services at Oshun Center
Alanna offers an integrated, embodied practice that uses contemporary and traditional dance/movement, somatics, breath-work, postural restoration® (a discipline of physical therapy that focuses on correcting natural postural imbalances, or asymmetries, in the body), inside an equity-driven, liberatory praxis known as “Black Light Research.”

"Alanna has an energy about her that encourages you to be your best self. An approach to all work that is holistic, integrative, and parallel with natural life processes."
— Canaan, Black Light Researcher
"I think people walk away from the Black Light praxis...who've had the privilege to experience it, walk away with a new synesthetic view on how practices of self care, performance, spirituality,
socialization, and countless other forms of life systems can be integrated into an approach that's stakeholder is living itself."
— Canaan, Black Light Researcher
"Alanna's process is grounded in your lived experience, your imagination, your thoughts, your emotions, and in that space where the mind goes quiet and the body takes over. Alanna has thoughtfully crafted a way to access that without putting things on top of you - it comes from within you."
